DNV GL offers a flexible electrical systems design service that is tailored to meet the client's requirements.

Our Garrad Hassan Turbine Engineering team have developed electrical drive-train solutions for:
  • Direct drive generators with full converters
  • Medium and high speed generators with or without full converters
  • Double fed induction generators

Through this process, we can identify preliminary and detailed generator and converter specifications which are suitable for issue to electrical suppliers.

Typically this commences from high level design of the electrical drive-train system. This accommodates the torque and speed characteristics of the turbine, along with the turbine control system requirements and the detailed technical requirements of regional grid or distribution codes. Addressing these mechanical and electrical requirements facilitates the drafting of preliminary and detailed generator and converter specifications. This can be undertaken either independently, or as a collaborative approach with any preferred vendors that the customer might have.

We also provide advice on the other turbine electrical aspects, including the requirements for auxiliary systems, power transformers, network interface switchgear and lightning protection systems guidance.

We will also review customer and supplier electrical system design proposals.
